U.S. Increases the De Minimis Threshold on Inbound Shipments

The United States has increased the de minimis level on international shipments inbound to the U.S. from $200 per shipment to $800 per shipment.

The de minimis is the minimum dollar value of qualifying* goods below which no formal customs procedures are required and no duties or taxes are collected. This means most shipments into the U.S. valued at less than $800 are now exempt from customs declarations and import taxes.

This represents a significant step in facilitating trade, reducing costs and accelerating the delivery of merchandise. In particular, this change will benefit Asian exporters by reducing paperwork for faster clearance and improved transit time to the U.S.
